	SCIENTIFIC MEETINGS IN SEPTEMBER
	"FINALLY OUR POLICY IS REFLECTED IN THE GOVERNMENTAL DECREES" Recently the Irkutsk Regional Governor Boris Govorin has come back from Novosibirsk where he had attended at the organizational meeting of the Siberian Federal District Council headed by the Plenipotentiary of Russian President in the District Leonid Drachevsky, and at the representative conference on development of the military-industrial establishment of the Siberian Federal District.
	"WE ARE DOOMED TO THE SITUATION IMPROVEMENT" August 8, the Minister of Industry, Science and Technology of Russian Federation Alexander Dondukov has given a direct broadcast talk on the "Echo of Moscow" radio. He answered the pressman Piotr Zhuravlev`s questions.
	THE INSTITUTE OF PHYSICAL AND TECHNICAL PROBLEMS OF THE NORTH OF THE SB RAS IS 30 Congratulation of the Presidium of the SB RAS.
	TEST BY THE NORTH Three anniversaries have been celebrated at once by the United Institute of Physical and Technical Problems of the North of the SB RAS in July: the Institute of Physical and Technical Problems of the North has been 30, the Institute of Non-Metallic Materials has been 10, and the most young Institute of Oil and Gas has been only one.


	SIBERIANS STUDY WHEAT At the end of July at the Novosibirsk Academgorodok the European Wheat Aneuploid Сompany (EWAC) together with the Institute of Cytology and Genetics (ICG) of the SB RAS has held the 11th International Conference "Aneuploids in Genetic Studies of Evolution and Adaptation of Gramineous Plants", dedicated to memory of O.Maistrenko (Olga Ivanovna Maistrenko, who had headed the large-scale Laboratory of Wheat Genetics at the ICG and almost fifty years purposefully worked in the field of the graminoids "improvement", paying her principal attention to wheat.)
	ARE YENISEI AND COLUMBIA BEING TWIN RIVERS? Radionuclide pollution of the Yenisei River which has arisen as a result of the cooling water release from nuclear power units of the Mining and Chemical Center (Zheleznogorsk) already for a long time has become a subject for heated ecological arguments and discussions. Since 1990 the Krasnoyarsk Scientific Center conducts permanent studies on the Yenisei River radioactive pollution undertaking complex expeditions. This year the recurrent expedition was organized for the first time becoming an international one.
	TO PUT THE STATION "ON BEAM" The activity of the Siberian Center of Synchrotron Radiation looks very effective on a global scale, as it was said at the 13th Russian Conference SR-2000, which one was held per July days at The G.I.Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics of the SB RAS. And not for the sake of witticism the results of its works for the last two years obtained using synchrotron radiation have been called as to be "resonant".
	BIOINFORMATICS: WHAT IS TO BE DONE WITH A "PORTRAIT" OF A HUMAN GENOME? The beginning of new century has been marked by the message on sequenation of a human genome i.e. decryption of all the sequences of DNA. Therefore it is no wonder, that the large-scale International Conference on Bioinformatics of Genome Regulation and Structure opened on August 7 at the House of Scientists of the SB RAS has appeared very actual and thus has attracted about 200 persons being the flower of the our country`s and worldwide science in this field at the interfaces between genetics, molecular biology, mathematics and computer technologies.
