	BEING GUIDED BY THE FINAL RESULT On the eve of the conference "Actual fundamental and applied problems of geology and geochemistry of oil and gas", exultant mood was felt at the Institute. It was so not only because this conference held in honor of Director of the Institute of Oil-and-Gas Geology of the SB RAS Academician Aleksei Kontorovich and devoted to his seventieth anniversary. 	CONFERENCE IN HONOUR OF ACADEMICIAN A.KONTOROVICH From January, 26 to January, 27, 2004 scientific conference "Actual fundamental and applied problems of geology and geochemistry of oil and gas" will be held devoted to the 70th anniversary from the birthday of Director of the Institute of Oil-and-Gas Geology of the SB RAS Academician Aleksei Kontorovich.
	CHEMICAL PRODUCTS FROM THE BIOMASS OF SIBERIAN WOOD SPECIES On January, 8 at the session of Presidium of the SB RAS Doctor Sc. (Chemistry) B.Kuznetsov of the Krasnoyarsk Institute of Chemistry and Chemical Technology of the SB RAS has presented a report "Chemical products from the biomass of Siberian wood species".
	AUTHORITY AND SCIENCE: SCIENTIFIC SUBSTANTIATION FOR ADMINISTRATIVE DECISIONS At the regular meeting of the Presidium of the Irkutsk Scientific Center of the SB RAS, Deputy Head of the Irkutsk Regional Administration, Doctor Sc. (Economics) Irina Dumova has presented scientific report "Approaches to the stimulation of social and economic development of the Region".
	THE FIRST TRANS-POLAR… The opening 40 years ago of the Tazovskoe gas field, the first in trans-polar region of Western Siberia, was an epoch-making event. The unique oil-and-gas- bearing province with huge resources and super-huge, the largest in the world gas deposits has declared about itself in a full voice with this field.
