	THE DAY OF RUSSIAN SCIENCE! The SB RAS Presidium congratulation.
	SIBERIAN COMPONENT OF THE STATE PRIZE As it was already informed, the Russian Federation State Prize in the field of science and engineering, according to the Russian Presidential Decree of December, 13, 2003 is awarded to the researchers of the Institute of Earth`s Crust of the SB RAS: Doctor Sc. (Geology and Mineralogy), Professor Valeri Imaev and Doctor Sc. (Geology and Mineralogy) Vladimir Hromovskih (posthumously). In the co-authorship with other Russian scientists they are awarded for their work «General seismic zoning of the Russian Federation territory: methodology and the complete set of maps OSR-97».
	OPEN DAY AT THE INSTITUTES OF THE NSC This year the Day of Science coincides with the 280th anniversary of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the 60th anniversary from the date of the founding of the West-Siberian Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences that was included later into the SB RAS. The celebratory actions devoted to these dates will take place in our city within a period from February, 5 to February, 10.
	EXHIBITION AT THE SIBEXPOCENTER Traditionally by Day of Science, exhibition displaying the achievements of scientists has been opened at the International exhibition center "SibExpoCenter" in Irkutsk.
	HOLIDAY AT THE TOMSK SCIENTIFIC CENTER Events devoted to the Day of Science, have begun in Tomsk on February, 3 with a meeting of the leaders of the Scientific Center and the Institutes with the press at the session of the Club of Tomsk journalists.
	HIGH SCIENTIFIC RECOGNITION The board of guardians of the Foundation for Assistance to Domestic Science has named four winners of the competition «Outstanding scientists of the RAS» and ten laureates of this competition.

	SCIENCE, PSEUDO SCIENCE AND FASHIONABLE NONSENSE Science is an important phenomenon of human culture. It is important, but not unique. There are poetry, theatre, religion and many other phenomena of culture outside the science. There are less attractive phenomena too. Pseudo-science is one of these.
	MAINSTREAM On February, 10 prominent Russian scientist, physiologist, Academician Ludmila Ivanova, Head of the Laboratory of Physiological Genetics of the Institute of Cytology and Genetics of the SB RAS, dean of the Medical Faculty of the Novosibirsk State University celebrates her anniversary.
	FORTUNATE CONCATENATION OF CIRCUMSTANCES Our Novosibirsk correspondent has met with well-known Russian scientist, geneticist, Academician Vladimir Shumny, Director of the Institute of Cytology and Genetics of the SB RAS, on the eve of the scientist’s anniversary.
	CONGRATULATIONS FOR THE ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATOR Doctor Sc. (Geology and Mineralogy) Victor Nikolaevich Dubatolov has been 80 years old. His colleagues from the Institute of Oil-and-Gas Geology congratulate him on this significant date.
	CHEMISTRY WITHIN ICE CRYSTALS Integrated studies on permafrost, forecasting of its development as well as on the features of economic development of cryozone territory are actively carried out at the Permafrost Institute of the SB RAS (Yakutsk).
	RESERVE AS A SUBJECT OF INQUIRY The Badhyz Reserve located in the south of the Karakum Desert near to the frontier between Turkmenistan and Afghanistan, is especially known as one of few places of natural dwelling of a rare species of the wild donkey, koulan.
	NEWS FROM THE STATE DUMA On January, 28 the meeting of the public of the Novosibirsk Scientific Center has been held with Lubov Shvets, the deputy of the State Duma over the Iskitim District wherein the Academgorodok is included.
	BOOKS FROM GERMANY Since February, 4 a book exhibition «Books from Germany» is held in the reading room of the Branch of the State Public Scientific Technical Library of the SB RAS.
