	ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS August, 5, 2006 well-known Russian petroleum geologist Doctor Sc. (Geology and Mineralogy) Nikolai Petrovich Zapivalov is 75 years old.

	DEEP TRACK IN THE MINING SCIENCE There are few families in Russia, which are connected with hard miner's work for two centuries. In the small sketch we would like to introduce the reader to the hereditary miners’ family of Gorbachev.
	CONTINUING THE FATHERLY BUSINESS … On the eve of a significant event, the fiftieth anniversary of the Siberian Branch, old residents recollect the deeds of the days past and the people participial to the coming-to-be and development of the Novosibirsk Scientific Center. One among them is Vasili Nikolaevich Leontiev, associate of Timofei Fedorovich Gorbachev and Nikolai Andreevich Chinakal, miner and teacher, senior researcher of the Institute of Mining.
	THE ANALYSIS OF CONDITION OF UNIQUE OBJECTS OF COAL BRANCH November, 14, 2005 the President of the Russian Federation V.Putin has signed the Decree on the rewarding Chief scientific researcher of the Institute of Coal and Coal Chemistry of the SB RAS Alexandr Borisovich Logov with the Order of Friendship for great services in the field of science and education.
	THE PROBLEMS OF EXTRACTION AND USE OF THE MINE METHANE June, from 19 to 20, the international conference «Mine methane: extraction, use, the possibilities of investment» has taken place in Kemerovo.

	TECHNOPARK: THE GOVERNMENT AND THE BUSINESS HAVE MADE A BARGAIN July, 26 the presentation and signing of the agreement between Regional and City Administration, the SB RAS and the "RosEuroDevelopment" Company on the realization of the project of the technopark creation in the Academgorodok have taken place in Novosibirsk.
	THE MUSEUM WILL TELL ABOUT SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING In the middle of summer there was a very important event happened in the life of Academgorodok: a museum of science and engineering has been opened.
	BIOINFORMATICS OF GENOME REGULATION AND STRUCTURE From July, 16 to July, 22 the Institute of Cytology and Genetics of the SB RAS have held the 5th International conference «Bioinformatics of genome regulation and structure - 2006» (BGRS-2006) at the House of Scientists of the Siberian Branch.
	CONFERENCE IN THE FIELD OF PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL BIOLOGY From July, 30 to August, 3 an International conference «Physical and chemical biology» organized by the Institute of Chemical Biology and Fundamental Medicine has been held at the House of Scientists of the Novosibirsk Academgorodok. The conference was devoted to the 80th anniversary of Academician D.Knorre.
	THE BAIKAL CONFERENCE OF UNESCO From June, 29 to July, 2 within the framework of the International Decade «Water for life» and the Decade of the education for sustainable development declared by the UNO, the International conference «Ecological ethics and education for sustainable development» has taken place at the fitness center on Lake Baikal.
	SEISMOLOGISTS HAVE GATHERED A seminar «Neotectonics, seismicity, modern volcanism and the laws of the distribution of minerals in Central Eurasia» has taken place in Krasnoyarsk.
	UNIQUE PROJECT USING GERMAN MONEY! The International project of the European Community carried out by the V.N.Sukachev Institute of Forest of the SB RAS (Krasnoyarsk) together with the Max Planck Institute of Biogeochemistry (Jena, Germany) and the Max Planck Institute of Chemistry (Mainz, Germany) costs millions euro.
	IMPORTANT PART OF SCIENCE-TOWN The scientific component of the development of science-town in Biysk becomes Institute of Problems of Chemical Energy Technologies of the SB RAS.
	THE PROSPECTS OF RUSSIAN SCIENCE: OPINION OF EXPERTS The foundation «Center for economic research and distribution of economic information «Open economy» has prepared in 2005 an analytical report «Academic sector of science in the intermediate term prospect» by request of the Expert Board of the Russian Presidential Administration.
	REFORMS OF THE RUSSIAN ACADEMY OF SCIENCE: SCIENTISTS’ OPINIONS The review presented includes a number of the opinions of scientists about urgent problems of the Academy’s activities and its reforming.
	NEW ADMITTANCE TO NSU: RESULTS AND FORECASTS The results of the NSU entrance examination of 2006 are officially notified.
	NEW PROGRAM Last week an accreditation commission of the Nottingham Trend University (Great Britain) worked at the Siberian State Space University (Krasnoyarsk).
