	SCIENTIFIC EVENTS IN JULY
	STATE PUBLIC SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNICAL LIBRARY: THE FIRST DEFENCES OF THE YEAR The Council on Candidate dissertation defense at the SPSTL of the SB RAS has begun its work in 2001 in new structure. The first defenses of Candidate theses on specialty "library science, bibliography and bibliology" (Pedagogics) have been held.
	IT SHOULD BE TAKEN CARE OF FUTURE TODAY At the Irkutsk Scientific Center the extended meeting of the Presidium was held. The representatives of Regional and City Administration as well as the Academgorodok public have taken part in the meeting.
	NOVOSIBIRSK SCIENTISTS PRESENTING Opening of an exotic exhibition has been held at the Museum of Archeology and Ethnography of the Omsk State University and the Omsk Branch of United Institute of History, Philology and Philosophy of the SB RAS.
	GEOGRAPHERS TRANSFORMING THE EARTH Seventh time the scientists and experts have gathered for scientific meeting on applied geography at the Institute of Geography of the SB RAS. It is held since 1966 according to the initiative of the first director of the Institute, founder of this scientific field Academician Victor Borisovich Sochava.
	HISTORY OF A MAN IN SIBERIA: FROM 250 THOUSAND YEARS AGO... At the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of the SB RAS the first meeting of novel Dissertation Council on archeology, ethnography, ethnology and anthropology has been held. It is unique trans-Ural Dissertation Council on the sciences listed. There were nine defenses, four of them being doctoral. The works were mainly devoted to the most ancient periods of history such as Paleolithic and Mesolithic ones.

	PICTURESQUE CHRONICLE OF ACADEMGORODOK There was own painter at the Novosibirsk Academgorodok, the foreman, who has devoted his life to it. That`s Nikolai Vasilievich Shagaev, Member of the Novosibirsk Union of Artists.
	SEMINARS, PROJECTS AND GRANTS OF THE INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNICAL CENTER In 1994 Russia, USA, united Europe and Japan have organized International Scientific and Technical Center (ISTC). Principal task of this non-governmental organization was to help structures that worked during the "cold war" period on the creation of weapons of mass destruction, to convert production and to find their proper place in civil science or in scientific engineering and in civil life.
	IDEA OF DIRECTIONAL EFFECT... During all the history of the ISTC seminars the Section of Biology worked at the Novosibirsk Scientific Center for the first time. It should be noted that this experience has appeared rather successful: twenty-eight reports of high level were presented by scientific organizations of France, Japan, Belgium, USA and Russia including Novosibirsk. The community of biologists of Novosibirsk has huge scientific potential.
	WAS THERE THE ORIGINAL MOTHERLAND OF TERRESTRIAL CONTINENTS, "BIRTHLAND"? There was a talk on super-continents in Pre-Cambrian geological development at the All-Russian meeting having taken place from June 4 to June 10 at the Institute of Earth`s Crust. The most prominent scientists of different regions of our country and from abroad participated in it.

	WHY DO WE NEED FOR POPULAR SCIENTIFIC LITERATURE? Academician A.Migdal has stated a remarkable idea: "Readers would learn much, if scientists considered telling about beauty of their science as their duty". Except a "food for mind" for inquisitive persons and the educational significance "beauty of science" has also enormously practical value.

	TAKING ROUTES OF TRACK-AND-FIELD RACE June 10 the regularly scheduled 26th track-and-field run in memory of Valery Rytsarev has been held in the Novosibirsk Academgorodok.
	"CHILDREN OF THE SUN" Children`s festival titled so has been held at the House of Scientists of the Siberian Branch of the RAS.
