	INFLEXIBLE FIGHTER, SCIENTIST AND CITIZEN OF RUSSIA Celebrations in the Novosibirsk Academgorodok, dedicated to the 90th anniversary of Academician А.А.Trofimuk.
	OIL AND GAS INDUSTRY OF RUSSIA AND THE CIS COUNTRIES: A SIGHT TOWARDS 21TH CENTURY Under this title, from August 14 to August 15 the First Trofimuk Readings have been held at the United Institute of Geology, Geophysics and Mineralogy; they opened the anniversary events dedicated to the 90th anniversary of Academician А.А.Trofimuk.

	PROMISING ASSOCIATION OF ASIAN SCIENTIFIC FORCES The Novosibirsk Scientific Center has accepted eminent guests: August 21 the Second General Assembly of the Association of Asian Academies of Sciences and the Third International Symposium "Transfer and Adaptation of Advanced Technologies in Asia" has been opened at the House of Scientists.
	POWER OF COMPUTING SYSTEMS INCREASING IN PARALLELISM September 4 the Sixth International Conference "Parallel Computing Technologies": PaCT-2001 is to be opened at the Small Hall of the House of Scientists of the Novosibirsk Academgorodok. The Conference is held by the Institute of Calculus Mathematics and Mathematical Geophysics of the SB RAS (the Department of Software for High-performance Computing Systems) together with the Novosibirsk State University and the Novosibirsk State Technical University.
	INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS OF MATHEMATICIANS From August 20 to August 28, 2002 regularly scheduled International Congress of Mathematicians will be held in Peking. Recently one of the Committees on the congress preparation has distributed the message on the grants rendered for the mathematicians of the East European and Former Soviet Union countries for participation in the Congress.
	DEDICATED TO ALEKSEI LIAPUNOV October 8, 2001 marks the 90th anniversary of Corresponding Member of the USSR Academy of Sciences Aleksei Andreevich Liapunov (1911-1973), one of the initiators of cybernetics, founder of Russian cybernetics, as well as of the Moscow and Siberian schools of cybernetics and of theoretical programming. Paying tribute to the outstanding Russian scientist, the Siberian Branch of the RAS holds the Conference dedicated to the 90th anniversary of A.A Liapunov.
	"ETHNOS. CREATIVITY. CULTURE" From November 26 to November 27 of this year the Siberian Branch of the Russian Institute of Culturology, the Omsk Branch of the UIHPP of the SB RAS and the Omsk State University will hold the All-Russian Scientific and Practical Conference "Ethnos. Creativity. Culture" in Omsk.
	THE 6th INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON NATURAL GAS CONVERSION The interest to the problem of natural gas conversion and to all the adjacent processes does not weaken within several decades. Within the framework of this field the largest International Symposium on natural gas transformations is held with a three-year period.

	THE CATALYSIS BEING UP TO THE MARK The "integration" concept has acquired today special weight and the sense. Thus the activity of either collective is quite often evaluated by the number of partners attracted in approach to the problem under development. When the Institute of Chemical Kinetics and Combustion developed the problem of aerosols, which happened repeatedly, among the authors of the "ChemKinetics" there was invariably marked the Institute of Catalysis, Laboratory of Spectral Methods, headed by Doctor Sc. (Physics and Mathematics) D.Kochubey.
	GLANCE AT THE CHEMISTRY OF FUTURE It is difficult to surprise the Novosibirsk Academgorodok by a scientific conference. How many of them is held annually! The scientists of Academgorodok have got used that in August within the precincts of the Novosibirsk State University there is reception of absolutely young students, pupils of regularly scheduled Summer School (SS), carried out by the Specialized Educational and Scientific Center under the NSU (that is known in public as the PhysMathSchool). Nevertheless this year something has happened that there wasn`t earlier: for the first time a conference-school was held, in which high level scientific reports and popular lectures for schoolchildren and teachers were combined.
	THE DAY OF MINER IN NEW MILLENNIUM This year the oldest professional holiday, the Day of Miner is celebrated after a remarkable date such as the 300th anniversary of the "Mining Board" establishing in Russia. This Decree by the Emperor Peter I has laid the foundation for the State fundamentals of industrial development of all the Russian treasures of the soil. The created high-power mining, metallurgical as well as fuel and energy potential allowed our country to withstand against hardship more then once, to save tenacity and to avoid large-scale social shocks.
	THE KUZBASS COAL AT THE CENTRE OF ATTENTION According to the task of Russian President on elaboration of the State Concept of long-term development of Siberia, realization of stepwise transition to more scaled usage of coal in power engineering should become one of the priority problems for Russian energy policy. Just this circumstance has been an incentive for two large-scale meetings held in Kemerovo.

	FROM A SUN-CITY TO A ZERO-CITY Victor Doroshenko together with Igor Koshever have gone in for research work on the history of the Novosibirsk Academgorodok as a phenomenon of the 60ths. I.Koshever entered those years being in the structure of the Bureau of the District Committee of Komsomol, later he was one of the chiefs of the Komsomol`s Research-and-Production Association "Fakel", a remote past genetic prototype of the present, and V.Doroshenko played some role in the student movement of the NSU.
	THE WAY TO SCIENCE IS OPEN! August 23 the Summer Physical and Mathematical School at the Novosibirsk Academgorodok has finished its work. Its holding has become long-term tradition; this year the School was held for the 40th time.
	"LAWS OF LIFE - LIVING VALUES": THE INTERNET PROJECT FOR THE SCHOOLCHILDREN OF THE WORLD The "Laws of Life - Living Values" project is held not for the first year in the world. Originally, in 1987, the John Templeton Foundation (USA) has started it as a competition of the compositions of the schoolchildren of all ages. What do the children think about living values, how do they understand words "laws of life"? Since that time about 60 thousands essays have been sent for the competition, it has grown up to the International Internet Project; since 1999 the book of children`s works where the pupil`s compositions, verses, stories and pictures selected by adjudicators are included, is annually is issued in New York. All the essays sent during academic year are stored at a huge website; their number usually exceeds two thousands.
