	HEAT TRANSFER IN TURBULENT SEPARATED FLOWS Physicist Dmitri Sikovski, scientific researcher of the Institute of Thermophysics of the SB RAS has been rewarded with the RAS Medal and Prize on the results of the 12th Competition of Young Scientists for the cycle of works "Heat transfer laws in the wall region of turbulent flows with separated zones and strong pressure gradients", carried out in co-authorship with his scientific chief, Doctor Sc. (Physics and Mathematics) А.Gorin.
	TO CHANGE THE SITUATION! The scientists of the Irkutsk Scientific Center have joined the protest action of the Russian scientists, displeased by the science financing level put into the project of the budget for 2002.

	Zhores Alferov: "WE SHOULD BLAME OURSELVES" Famous scientist, the Nobel Prize Winner Zhores Alferov has taken part in the discussion on the results of the last decade organized by the "Literature newspaper". It is thought, that it will be interesting for the "Science in Siberia" readers to get acquainted with the reflections of the Academician about what is happening to our country.
	MAGNETIC RESONANCE IN THE "ST. PETERSBURG" FRAMING Joining their efforts, the Institute of Catalysis of the SB RAS together with the Pierre and Marie Curie University have held the 9th International Symposium "Magnetic resonance in colloids and at the interfaces" at Saint-Petersburg. It has attracted great attention of the experts. Foreigners have rushed to St.- Petersburg with particular activity: they were the main part of the visitors.
	WHAT KIND OF THE AIR WE SHALL TAKE? The Conference "Global atmospheric changes and their influence on the air quality in the region", organized by NATO together with the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Russian Basic Research Foundation has been held at the Lymnological Institute of the SB RAS in Irkutsk. Leading researchers, mainly the chemists from 15 foreign countries and different cities of Russia reported on the projects, observations and conclusions, focusing their attention on this problem urgent for all the inhabitants of the Earth.
	USEFUL COMPETITORS WITH GREAT ABILITY Search for effective and ecologically safe biological means for plant protection from phytopathogenes is urgent in the agriculture field all over the world today. The Institute Cytology and Genetics of the SB RAS has patented one of such preparations.
	IT IS REFERRED TO AS "VIRTUAL REALITY"... In due time semiconductors have made revolution in radio electronics. The creation of transistors, and then of microcircuits has resulted in the appearance of new industries that has changed our life radically. Now similar situation is developing in optics.
	SCIENCE: ASPECTS OF INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION Last years communications of Irkutsk scientists with their colleagues of different countries all over the world broadly develop. Today the Irkutsk Scientific Center of the SB RAS supports international contacts with more than 100 scientific establishments and foreign organizations of 34 countries participating in realization of 77 international programs and bilateral agreements.
	FOR CLEAN BAIKAL Not only the international dustmen brigades headed by "GreenPeace" come from apart to clear the coast of Baikal. Russian ecological movements are anxious with condition of unique lake, too.
	THE POLZUNOV GRANTS According to the decree of the Minister of Education of Russian Federation the Altai State Technical University has confirmed the right to be called officially the directing agency in realization of the competition "The Polzunov grants of 2002".
	PROBLEMS AND PROSPECTS OF COMMERCIALIZATION OF TECHNOLOGIES IN THE KRASNOYARSK REGION Production growth and industrial development in the countries with technology- oriented economy mainly depend on successful innovations, which means that the results of researches and elaborations are commercialized efficiently (passing into the stage of commercial output). Thus the access of technological companies to financial resources becomes a key factor in the innovation process.

	GOLDBOILING MANGAZEA OR THE RUSSIANS IN THE EXTREME NORTH Under such double and a little bit unusual title the book by Candidate Sc. (History) V.Leontiev is prepared for publishing. This historical and geographical edition is aimed at elucidation of the major stages of great development of North and Siberia.
	In memoriam The tragedy of October 4 such as the destruction of the plane TU-154 carrying out the flight from Tel Aviv to Novosibirsk has become general grief for all of us. The life of 78 persons, among whom there was the remarkable crew of the "Siberia" airline, has broken. Our Academgorodok dwellers have perished too. The Academgorodok is small and thus all of us somehow know each other, both those who live and work in Academgorodok, and those who have left for Israel. Among the perished there are relatives, colleagues, friends of the inhabitants of the Academgorodok.
