	ON THE COMPETITION FOR THE V.A.KOPTIUG PRIZES held by the Russian Academy of Sciences in 2002.
	THE NOVOSIBIRSK STATE UNIVERSITY BEING AWARDED WITH THE SPI GOLD MEDAL In 2001, the anniversary year for the Association of French Industry Assistance (SPI) the Novosibirsk State University has been awarded with the SPI Gold Medal, and the NSU Rector Nikolai Dikanski has been decorated with Honorary Breastplate of the Association. At the end of November Rector of the University has been invited to visit Paris where the solemn presentation of the awards was held.

	GREAT ACADEMIC GATHERING IN MOSCOW The SB RAS General Meeting of November 13, 2001.
	THE FIRST ECOLOGICAL At the Novosibirsk Academgorodok the first stream of extension courses in specialty "Environmental protection and rational nature management" has finished the work.
	THE YOUNG SCIENTISTS CONFERENCE SCHOOL From November 26 to December 2 the Young Scientists` Conference School "Contemporary Problems of Solid State Radiation Physics" was held at the Tomsk Polytechnic University.
	WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP ON PROGRAMMING From November 26 to November 29 the semi-final of the International Student`s World Championship on programming (ACM ICPC) has been held at the Altai State Technical University. The Championship is held annually already more than 20 years running among combined teams of higher educational institutions.
	SIBERIAN HEALTH: MYTH AND REALITY Real needs of territories are not taken into account in development of federal programs.
	"APPLICATION DRUDGERY" AND SPACE SURPRISE The Institute of Semiconductor Physics of the SB RAS participates in the Competition of research and experimental development works, held on demand of the Ministry of Industry, Science and Technologies of Russian Federation within the framework of the target scientific and technical program " Researches and elaborations in priority fields of science and engineering development" for 2002-2006.
	THERMODYNAMICS AND INORGANIC MATERIALS The problems of researches in the field of thermodynamics and inorganic materials were at the centre of attention of the seminar held at the Institute of Inorganic chemistry of the SB RAS from October 22 to October 25 under aegis of the Presidiums of the Siberian and Ural Branches of the RAS.
	WHY DO COALMINES BLOW UP? Statistics shows, that each one million ton of coal mined in Russia is coupled to loss of one miner`s life. Ranging the injuring importance of the causes we have the following sequence: collapses and fall of rocks, then machines and mechanisms, transport, electro supply, methane explosions etc. What does underlie these accidents? And chiefly, what is done in order to draw together with world level of gas safety of coalmines?
	THREE STAGES OF PROFESSOR SIROTKINA`S LIFE Doctor Sc. (Chemistry), Professor Ekaterina Egorovna Sirotkina is known to scientific community as the scientist who has devoted more than 50 years to scientific and pedagogical activity.

(Geology and Mineralogy) L.Parfenov and Director of the Institute of Geochemistry of the SB RAS, Corresponding Member of the RAS M.Kuzmin.
	NOVEL BOOKS OF THE "RADIO AND COMMUNICATION" PUBLISHING HOUSE
	THERE IS PROTECTION AGAINST ANTHRAX! As it is known, Siberian scientists have found an efficient way to protect against anthrax spores distributed by mail. Our correspondent Galina Kiseleva has a talk to one of the authors of the development, head of the Laboratory of Microbiology of the Limnological Institute of the SB RAS, Doctor Sc. (Biology), Professor V.Druekker.
	OPTICAL COMMUNICATION BETWEEN SATELLITES HAS BECOME REALITY Communication session between two satellites with a laser beam use for data transfer has been realized for the first time.
