SYNTHESIS OF DIRECTIONS, OR FORCE OF TRADITIONS IN VIEW OF INNOVATIONS Day of Chemist which was established by the Decree of Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR from October 1, 1980 as a professional holiday of workers of chemical branch, is traditionally marked in our country on the last Sunday of May. But it at once has been recognized by scientists-chemists, experts in different directions of this surprising and eternally young science as their own holiday.

	STUDYING FLORA The Small School Academy at the Siberian Institute of Physiology and Biochemistry of Plants of the SB RAS was founded in the 70's of the 20th century. Pupils of Irkutsk schools, mainly from the Academgorodok, attended popular scientific lectures on problems of biology and physiology of plants, wherein scientific employees of the Institute acquainted them with the achievements of a domestic and foreign science. Some of the high-school students have connected their lives with biology and other areas of scientific knowledge.

	TEN CENTURIES OF RUSSIAN BOOK-LEARNING The presentation of an exhibition “Ten centuries of book culture of Russia” has been held at the Department of Rare Books and Manuscripts (the Museum of the book) of SPSTL of SB RAS before the Day of Slavic Writing - May 24. Rare copies from the gatherings and collections of the Department have been submitted in an exposition telling about a thousand-year history of manufacturing and printing of books in our Fatherland.
	HUMANISM, SCIENCE AND EDUCATION People do not exist by themselves, but as representatives of a kind of homo sapiens. The science objectively unites subjectively various people and serves as the mechanism of immortality of mankind. However the problem of perfection of this mechanism is far from being solved.
