Research field station «Spasskaya Pad».
The total area of the research field station «Spasskaya Pad» of the Institute for Biological Problem of Cryolithic Zone SB RAS is 400 ha. A larch, a pine and a birch are the main forest forming species that are common for this region. The location of this station is 30 km to the north from Yakutsk. Minimum temperature is -57 C degree, maximum +38 C.
In summer 1996 the Dutch tower of 30 meters for hydrometerological monitoring within the frames of International Program GEWEX/GAME Siberia (Global Energy and Water Experiment / GEWEX Asian Monsoon Experiment) was established.
The aim of scientific researches is to study the role of boreal forests in global climate change. The researches on forest management, hydrometeorology, pedology, physiology and ecology are conducted.
Parameters and characteristics: productivity of forest ecosystems, temperature and air humidity around the area of the tower (6 levels), air velocity on 6 levels, the temperature and soil moisture, CO2 emission, evatranspirations, photosynthesis, respiration, physical and chemical soil properties and etc.
Automatised tower for hydrometeorological monitoring in larch forest is the first in Russia. And there are no analogues of it.The participants for the International Project IGBP from many countries are the potential partners.
There are 14 summer dwelling-houses and 2 houses for winter residence on the territory of the station. The power supply is the whole year round. Meal is ordered. The means of communication, transport and radiotelephone. The accommodation fee is $35 per one person a day.
