	GIVING YOUTH THE FLOOR The presidium of the Siberian Branch of the RAS focuses its attention on the work with scientific youth. It is confirmed, in particular, with the becoming regular scientific meetings at the sessions of the Presidium of the SB RAS.
	SPLENDID MACHINE Last year the finishing session of the Presidium of the Siberian branch of the RAS has been held December, 26 and appeared to be rather unusual. This day they congratulated the group of leading scientists of the SB RAS, the Russian Federation State Prize winners of 2002 in the field of science and engineering as well as discussed scientific reports of the group of young scientists.
	THE SB RAS PRESIDIUM MEETING
	ACADEMIC INSTITUTE OF COAL, UNIQUE IN RUSSIA The Institute of Coal opened in Kemerovo in 1983 has become the first self- dependent establishment of the Academy of Sciences in Kuzbass.
	JAPAN IS INTERESTED IN SIBERIAN COAL Signing of the agreement on joint research has taken place at the Presidium of the Irkutsk Scientific Center of the SB RAS between the Organization for development of novel energy and industrial technologies (NEDO) of Japan and the Irkutsk Scientific Center.
	THERMOPHYSICS FOR BUILDING Laboratory of thermophysics of the Institute of Physical and Technical Problems of the North of the SB RAS, except for the researches on fundamental problems of heat and mass exchange in natural systems and engineering structures in extreme climatic conditions of the North, is carrying out the works concerning the problems of building thermophysics.
	WHAT IS EXPECTED TO HAPPEN TO THE CIVILIZATION AND RUSSIA? Two years ago there has been made an attempt to trace the development of events on this direction in the press review «Where does our civilization go to?» (SiS 2002, N 2). What has changed and how for the last two years?
