	SCIENCE ON SERVICE TO THE NORTH On the eve of the 60th anniversary of Michail Novopashin, Doctor Sc. (Engineering), Professor, Director of the N.V.Cherski Institute of Mining of the North of the SB RAS our correspondent has met with the anniversary celebrator.

	AT THE PRESIDIUM OF THE SB RAS
	SUMMIT IN TOMSK From April, 26 to April, 27 a Russian and German summit has been held in Tomsk.
	IRKUTSK SCIENTIFIC CENTER OF THE SB RAS: YESTERDAY, TODAY, TOMORROW … April, 14 the General Meeting has taken place at the Irkutsk Scientific Center of the SB RAS.
	THE COUNCIL ON INFORMATION AND TELECOMMUNICATION RESOURCES: RESULTS AND PROSPECTS Traditionally, the work of the Annual General Meeting of the SB RAS is anticipated with the sessions of United Scientific Councils on the fields of sciences and of Coordination Councils for Target Programs. United Academic Council on Informatics in the system of the Siberian Branch is not present yet. A Council of the program «Information and telecommunication resources of the SB RAS» is engaged in coordination of the development of info-communication networks of the Branch.
	THE PROSPECTS OF INNOVATIONS AND HIGH-TECH BUSINESS IN SIBERIA From the speech of the SB RAS Chairman Academician Nikolai Dobretsov at the Joint session of the Council attached to the Plenipotentiary of the RF President in the Siberian Federal District, the Council of the SFD legislators and the Council of the Interregional Association «Siberian Agreement», held March, 29.
	ENERGY SPECTRUM The past 2005 has been marked by a burst of attention to the problems of the Russian energy, including in the Academic circles. In February an extended session of the SB RAS Presidium on the problems of Russian power engineering has been held, in the summer the 1st Siberian Power Engineering Congress, in the winter scientific sessions of General meetings of the SB RAS and the RAS took place.
	REAL PRACTICAL RESULT The program «SB RAS Energy Saving-2005» was oriented on research works which would have prestigious scientific results for the SB RAS in the increase of energy efficiency and be directed on real practical use, first of all, in the structures of the SB RAS.
	INVESTMENTS AND NEW IDEAS ARE NEEDED The problems of energy efficiency, energy and resource saving are important for our country. Without solving them it is difficult to speak about creation of modern economy, about doubling the gross national product. These questions are even more urgent in municipal energetics and the sphere of housing and communal services where the potential of energy saving is the most significant.

	EVEN A MARMOT IS BORED WITH THE WINTER The image of this interesting big rodent of squirrel family is embodied in a venomous saying: «You sleep as a marmot». And how otherwise it, the poor creature, could to go through such a long Siberian winter without hibernation?
