	IN THE AGENDA OF THE SCIENTIFIC SESSION OF THE RAS GENERAL MEETING The scientific session of the General Meeting of the Russian Academy of Sciences on the topic "Scientific and technological forecasting: the major element of the development strategy of Russia" to take place December, 16 to 17, 2008 in Moscow.
	INTERNATIONAL FORUM DEVOTED TO NANOTECHNOLOGIES From December, 3 to December, 5 the first in Russia International forum on nanotechnologies took place at the Expocentre on Krasnopresnenskaya Quay in Moscow, organized by the State Corporation for nanotechnologies known nowadays as "RusNano".
	FUNDAMENTAL SCIENCE IS THE BASIS OF NANOTECNOLOGIES Last years the nanotechnologies are much spoken about. And it is not surprising: according to the forecasts of the majority of experts the development of nanotechnologies namely will determine the character of the 21st century just as the discovery of nuclear energy, the invention of lasers and the transistors have formed the face of the 20th century. Now this is rather extensive research field including a lot of lines in physics, chemistry, biology, electronics, medicine and other sciences.
	THE REPUBLIC OF SOUTH AFRICA AND KUZBASS: TOWARDS THE SOLVING OF MUTUAL PROBLEMS December, 4 the Institute of Coal and Coal Chemistry of the SB RAS was visited by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of South Africa in the Russian Federation.
	SAVING THE BIODIVERSITY All-Russian scientific conference with International participation "The problems and prospects of Siberian water bioresources utilization in XXI century" devoted to 100th anniversary of the Yenisei Icthyological Laboratory.
	ADAPTATION FOR SIBERIA: THE HISTORY AND THE PRESENT November, 17 to 18 the three Institutes of the SB RAS (the Institute of History, the Institute of Philosophy and the Law, the Institute of Mongolology, Buddhology and Tibetology) held in Krasnoyarsk a conference summed up the results and determined the prospects of further studying the phenomenon of adaptation, the use of the obtained results in sociocultural and education fields, the development of interregional and international cooperation.
	YOUNG CHEMISTS STRENGTHENING THEIR POSITIONS The three young scientists of the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry of the SB RAS, post-graduates Ekaterina Mainicheva, Pavel Abramov and Candidate Sc. (Chemistry) Artem Gushchin were at once included into the list of the winners of a prestigious competition between young scientists of Russia.
