	CONGRATULATIONS ON THE DAY OF SCIENCE
	TO FORM A SCIENCE THAT MEETS THE CHALLENGES OF TIME A traditional Press-conference has been held at the Plenipotentiary Representation of the Siberian Federal District on February 6, just on the eve of the Day of Science. The heads of major research organizations of Siberia have shared their achievements for the past year and answered the questions of journalists.
	SCIENCE AND EQUIPMENT ARE STRENGTHENING THE EASTERN REGIONS During his visit to the Novosibirsk Region, Minister of Regional Development V.F. Basargin has been acquainted with the activities of SB RAS and Technopark of Novosibirsk Academgorodok.

	MEETING AT VERTKOVSKY A regular cycle of the popular TV show “Meetings at Vertkovsky” has taken place on February 7 at the State TV broadcasting company “Novosibirsk”. On the eve of Day of Russian Science, Academician N.Z. Lyakhov, Director of the Institute of Solid State Chemistry and Mechanochemistry of SB RAS, Chief Academic Secretary of SB RAS, has been a guest of the TV studio.
	TO UNDERSTAND THE LAWS OF THE UNIVERSE The beginning of second semester and the opening of Days of Science at the Novosibirsk State University has been marked by a lecture entitled “Modern Astrophysics” that took place at the Big Physical Auditorium on February 6.

	SciFinder — NAVIGATOR IN THE OCEAN OF CHEMICAL INFORMATION The training seminars on working with the system SciFinder - the most important information-search resource in the field of chemistry, hosted by the Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS) of the American Chemical Society, have been held at the Institute of Catalysis of SB RAS and NSU on January 24-25.
	IT’S EASIER TO CLOSE THE BAIKALSK PULP AND PAPER MILL (BPPM) THAN TO RE-PROFILE IT In late January, the Public Council on the Environmental Issues, affiliated to the government of Irkutsk region has taken place. The proposals for recultivation of the BPPM accumulated industrial wastes have, in particular, been considered at the meeting.

	PORTRAITS OF STATE PEOPLE February 26 marks 230 years since the birth of a portrait painter Alexander Grigorievich Varnek (1782-1843) who created a whole gallery of portraits of famous people of Pushkin's time.

	HALF A CENTURY IN RADIATION PHYSICS OF SEMICONDUCTORS On January 17, it would be 80 years from the birth of Leonid Stepanovich Smirnov, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor, the USSR State Prize Winner. He died two months before his birth anniversary.
