Unitary group actions and classification problems

Gao S.

University of North Texas (Denton)

I will give a survey of the theory of Borel reducibility for orbit equivalence relations whose acting group is the unitary group or an variation, such as the group of measure preserving transformations. This theory originated and has applications to the classification of various objects related to the unitary group and the Hilbert space. Some of these classification problems are still open to date. I will talk about positive results as well as the intriguing open problems remaining in the field.
