On Finitely Presented Expansions of Algebras.

Khoussainov B.M.

The Computer Science department,
The University of Auckland,
New Zealand (Auckland)

In this talk we survey recent results related to the following question. Does a given algebra possess a finitely presented expansion? The roots of this question go back to the late 70s when Bergstra and Tucker developed an algebraic approach to study abstract data types. The results are obtained by the speaker in collaboration with Goncharov (Novosibirsk), Hirschfeldt (Chicago), and Rubin (Auckland).
