We conducted epidemiological observation of 1691 men at the age of 20-59 working under expeditionary watch operating conditions in oil-extracting complex of West Siberia. The object of our study was 15-day watch with transmeridional transference through 3 hour zones and translatitudinal move from temperature climatic zone of frigit climate.

The findings of our study concerning the smoking of men working under the condition of interregional watch demonstrated extremely high prevelence of this index both in the whole population at the age of 20-59 (72,6%) and in different age groups. The rate of regular smokers reliably decreased up to 49 years old remaining practically stable futher.

Among regular smokers there was examined the intensity of smoking according to the number of smoked cigarettes per day. Moreover, among persons who smoked the greatest and the least number of cigarettes per day there was observed a differently directed tendensy to increasing and decreasing of intrnsity of smoking depending on the age. The reliable lowering of this index was registered only in the group of men at the age of 40-49 (p<0,01) who smoked less than 10 cigarettes per 24 hours. Among persons who smoked 10-19 and 20-29 cigarettes/day the intencity of smoking reliably decreased and increased, correspondingly, up to 49 years. Among persons who smoked 0,5-1 pack of cigarettes/day the intencity of smoking decreased 1.6 times when they reached the forth decade of their life and it became 2 times lower during the fifth decade and vice versa, the number of "the most maligant" smokers increased 1.3 times from 49.3% in the youngest age group when they reached the 4th decade of their life and 1.2 times more to the 5th decade.

In conclusion, thus, the intencity of smoking was high in the eldest groups where the phenomenon of lowering of percentage of smokers and at the same time increasing of intencity of smoking might be explaned by developing new cases of Coronary heart disease in 5th decade of life on the one hand and on other hand by the fact that in the eldest groups the smokers wewe mainly people practically health who didn`t need to limit themselves in the number of cigarettes to smoke. Nevertheless, the examined index was rather high in people at the age of 20-29, e.a. at the period of their social adaptation especially considering their difficult expeditionary watch working conditions.
