Untill recent time ecological conceit was considered to be the theoretical basis, which explained the development and lowering of viluy encephalomyelitis (VE) morbidity: etiological role of infection (virus) agent, phenol- and genotypic predisposition, meaning of geochemical environment.

The abovementioned factors by any means play their role in VE etiology and pathogenesis, but they probably are connected with starting mechanisms of the development of this heavy disease and determine clinical manifestation of the disease. But according to modern research the disease is the state, which is primarily caused by the disturbances of regulatory interactions between the structure and functions of an organism and its response to these disturbances. This state is based one these or those disturbances of homeostasis, i.e. dynamic equilibrium in all the vital processes inside organism and its relationships to environment.

Having estimated VE in the abovementioned terms, it is clear, that these predictors of the diseases (infection agent, pheno- and genotypic predisposition, the peculiarities of geochemical environment) are active on the background of chronic ecological stress in the process of total influence on the mentioned factors. They can become the starting mechanism in the formation of disregulatory pathology, evident in VE. Disregulatory processes can be regarded as initial link, which is the basis of VE development and condition. They are directed towards the transformation of the formed homeostasis in order to correspond to the interconnections between the peculiarities of geochemical environment, infection agent and pheno- and genotypic predisposition of an organism. We support the idea taken from research carried out within many years. It is initial disregulatory link in VE development, which is confirmed by the data on the appearance of “interferon deficit” syndrome and the development of restructuring processes in blood lymphocyte membranes in heavy VE.
