AIM. To study gastroesofageal reflux disease (GERD) prevalence in Mongoloids and Europoids in Eastern Siberia.

ÌETHODS. We carried out cross-section GERD epidemiological study in rural population in northern (Evenkia, Yakutia) and southern (Khakassia, Tyva) regions of Siberia. Prevalence of heartburn was examined for 6 208 Europoids and 4 129 Mongoloids. Esofagofibrogastroduodenoscopy was made for 2 624 Europoids and 1 920 Mongoloids in 40% picked up by random. Esofagitis diagnosis was produced on the basis of Los-Angeles classification of 1994. Clinical symptoms, anamnesis, social and objective status were studied with the help of standard forms.

RESULTS. Heartburn prevalence was 31.8% in Europoids and 22.7% in Mongoloids, ð<0.001. Heartburn prevalence was 17.4% In the Evenks, 21.3% in the Khakass, 36.9% in the Tyvins, ð<0.001. Endoscopic positive GERD prevalence was 0.6% in the Evenks, 2.3% in the Khakass, 5.1% in the Tyvins and 5.4% in Europoids, ð<0.001. Helicobacter Pylori prevalence and the state of stomach acid production didn’t have evident differences within ethnic mongoloid groups. The state of actual nutrition in northern and southern Mongoloids had their own peculiarities.

CONCLUSION. We registered remarkable differences in GERD prevalence in Europoids and Mongoloids, as well as in the representatives of different ethnic Mongoloid groups of Siberia.
