The department of scientific bibliography of the State Public Scientific-Technological Library of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (SB RAS) is specialized on information support of scientific projects, supplying users with relevant systematized information on a wide spectrum of problems. To solve this task the problem-oriented data bases are compiled and documentary fluxes from DBs are analyzed according to consumers requests.

Materials on the topic “Medical-biological and sanitary-hygienic problems of the North” are represented in a polythematic bibliographic DB “Problems of the North”, which includes literature since 1988 in Russian and foreign languages. Each document contains a full bibliographic description, annotation, codes of thematic and geographical rubricators. A documentary massive of the DB is formed based on a copyright deposit of domestic literature got by our library and foreign one entering research establishments of SB RAS, besides secondary information sources (abstract journals of VINITI-center) are used. It includes books, papers from journals and scientific collections, proceedings of conferences, scientific reports, dissertation theses, deposited manuscripts, recommendations. Geographical frames of materials are rather wide: the European North of the Russian Federation, Siberia, the Far East, arctic and subarctic regions of Canada, Finland, Sweden, Norway, and also Alaska, Spitsbergen, Greenland.

The documentary flux on medical-biological and sanitary-hygienic problems of the North contains more than 7400 documents for 1988-2005. Such aspects are reflected in it: human organisms development under severe northern conditions and adaptation to them, natural-foci infection appearance (Vilyui encephalitis, opisthorchiasis), impact of unfavourable ecological conditions on human health, peculiarities of various diseases course at the North and measures on their prophylaxis. Literature on aboriginal scanty northern peoples is concentrated in a separate section of DB, where more than 800 documents are devoted to different points of northern aboriginals health. DB “Problems of the North” is represented in the Internet at site www.spsl.nsc.ru.
