Alcohol, smoking, and drug abuse
Chronic hepatitis C (CHC) development is connected in many cases with parenteral usage of drugs (Ostrovskij, 2000). The aim: to evaluate the role of home-made opiates parenteral usage in development of liver cells damage in patients with CHC. Minimal activity of CHC was characterized by almost "normal" liver ALT and AST activity both in groups with CHC and CHC+opiates. Cytolytic syndrome (hepatocytes damage) was typical for middle forms of CHC patients and opiates did not aggravate significantly liver cells damage, but increased intrahepatic cholestasis (according to increased bilirubin level, activity of alkaline phosphatase and GGT activity). In heasvy degree of CHC opiated increased both cytolytic and cholestatic syndomes. Increased activity of acute phase alpha-1-proteinase inhibitor was shown in all cases of CHC, whereas the increased serum chitotriosidase activity was registered predominantly in CHC patients used opiated. Chitotriosidase assay was suggested as a surrogate marker of opiate addiction in CHC.
