The reproductive population potential and it’s realization are characterized by a number of women of fertile age, their reproductive plans and level of total fertility.

In Norilsk, (more than 230.000 inhabitants), locating beyond the polar circle, there are12,5% of women of fertile age (20-34 years). In developing a 50- thousand city of the middle part of the Ob river (Megion) a number of such women composed 12,1%, in megapolice of the siberian south zone – Novosibirsk –12,9%. So we can conclude that than a larger city is than it has a large reproductive potential. Thus, for 1999-2004 in Novosibirsk, the index of fertility was 1,010,04, in Norilsk and Megion – 1,330,06 and 1,630,17, correspondingly.

Sociological inquest of young women has shown that average planning number of children is the same in Novosibirsk and Norilsk and composed 1,730,05. However, in Megion, realization of a number of children doesn’t differ from the planning one, in Norilsk, this difference composes 30%, in Novosibirsk – 71,3%. A number of wanted children is higher –1,990,07, but it is by 15,0-17,0% lower as compared to the necessary level (2,15-2,17).

58,4% of women stated that the main reasons of keeping child birth were unclear future, professional interests, education necessity and so on.

Thus, in the northern siberian regions there are a decreased reproductive potential, as compared to the developing cities, where realization of it is higher. At positive demographic policy, in developing cities it is possible to achieve the level of birth in families, corresponding to the wanted one. It will provide a simple way of substitution of generations.
