The purpose of research: To study ̀RI of brain of the patients with chronic form of Viliuisk encephalomyelitis (VE).
Materials and methods: We have studied the results of ̀RI of brains of 14 patients with VE chronic form, with the disease duration from 3 to 39 years (the average duration for the whole group has made 20.6±10.0), the average age by the beginning of survey – 51.1±10.6. Brain researches were carried out with a computer tomograph of the firm Siemens Magnetom Impact Expert (Germany) in the National Center of Medicine. ̉1 and ̉2 suspension modes with the use of SE, TSE, TIRM sequences were applied. The scanning was made in the axial, coronary and sagittal planes at 1 Tesla intensity of magnetic field.
According to the results of MRI brain researches the most frequent radiological indication was diffusive cortical atrophy with the significant expansion of subarachnoidal spaces and also the significant expansion of brain ventricles without the sign of increased chamber pressure (100 %). Heavy form of brain atrophy was found in 9 (64.3 %), easy form - in 5 (35.7 %) of examined patients. In 9 (64.3 %) patients atrophy of hemispheres and of cerebellum vermis was revealed. In 9 persons (64.3 %) periventricularly located small focuses of demyelination existed.
It is established that diffusive atrophy of brain with hydrocephaly is characteristic for VE.
