Ethnic peculiarities of the North native inhabitants health

Originality of way of life of the northern indigenous peoples small in number, the climatic-geographic peculiarities of the territories of their living dictate the necessity of creation and development of mobile forms of rendering planned medical-diagnostic, consulting and preventive medical care. Health protection of the indigenous population in the northern territories difficult of access should correspond to the scales and importance of social work.

During 30 years, we study peculiarities of health state and carry out social-hygienic and medical examinations of the indigenous population of the Russian northern territories, we render medical aid to the population of the remote settlements and to the roaming population. Mobile medical teams examined the population of the most of settlements of the Nenets autonomous area. The teams’ activity strengthens medical aid to the indigenous population taking into account the region’s specificity and the territory’s pathology and it is an organizational form of the roaming indigenous population’s medical examination. In 2002 and 2005 together with the Association of the Nenets People “Yasavei” and the Administration of the NAA, a unique medical-social project has been realized. In its framework, all the families of roaming reindeer breeders in the tundra of the peninsula Kanin Nos have been examined. The results of the scientific-practical studies allowed to work out normative indices of physical development, functional state of the systems of hemopoiesis, blood circulation, immunity, exchange of microelements and electrolytes, to reveal the region’s peculiarities of functional indices of a number of life supporting systems and their influence on the character of pathology course, the regional structure of morbidity, to work out schemes of their correction rational for these conditions. The mobile helminthologic teams have studied the epidemiological situation concerning helminthiasis and factors influencing their spreading, complex measures directed at foci sanitation have been worked out.

Rendering of specialized aid to the population of the Far North concerning prevention of drunkenness and alcoholism among the population, education in healthy way of life was carried out according to the principle of work of the psycho-addictological expeditions organized twice a year and serving 3-5 districts simultaneously. This has been introduced in the structure of the addictological aid to the indigenous population of the NAA since the middle of the 1980-s. The peculiarities of the NAA’s indigenous people public health state revealed by the doctors and medical scientists during the long-term expedition studies, the worked out, approved and introduced new forms of the roaming population’s medical service organization allow to solve many medical-social problems of the northern indigenous peoples small in number. The results of the carried out long-term scientific and practical work for studying and preservation of health of the northern indigenous peoples small in number ground the necessity of organization of a new direction in medicine – ethnic medicine.
