Morbidity rate of Diabetes Mellitus (DM) depends on ethnicity.

Purpose: to study state of lipid peroxidation (POL) and antioxidant system (AOS), association between DM 1 type (DM1) and mononucleotide polymorphism of (SNP) gene CTLA4 49A/G in patients with DM1 of Buryat population.

We examined 27 patients with DM 1 (mean age 32,7±2.3 years) of Russian population and 38 patients with DM 1 of analogous age of Buryat population. Genetic research was done in 74 patients with DM1 of Buryat population aged 1 to 40 yrs.

There has been found activation of POL in patients with DM 1 in Russian population with reliable accumulation of peroxidation products against the patients with DM 1 in Buryat population (p<0.05). In patients with DM 1 in Russian population there has been marked reliable elevation of α-tocopherol concentration for 24% and in patients of Buryat population with DM 1 type – antioxidant activity (AOA) increased for 30%. Distribution of CTLA4 genotypes in patients with DM1 of Buryat population and in the control group of Buryats: in the group of patients with DM1 the frequency of genotype GG constituted 51.4% and in the control group – 42.6% (p>0.05). Amount and frequency of alleles and genotypes SNP 49AG were: in patients with DM1 frequency of allele A – 27.7% and allele G – 72.3%; frequency of genotype- AA – 6.76%, AG – 41.9%, and GG – 51.4%; frequency of phenotype AA+AG – 48.65% and GG+AG – 93.24%; in the control group – frequency of allele A – 36.06% and allele G – 63.93%; frequency of genotype AA – 14.75%, AG – 42.62%, and GG – 42.62%; %; frequency of phenotype AA+AG – 57.37% and GG+AG – 85.24%.

Thus, POL and AOP state in patients with DM of Russian and Buryat population differ. Associations of SNP 49A/G of gene CTLA4 with propensity for DM1 in Buryat population was not detected.
