We have developed and tested a new electromagnetic sounding method, which is called EM-ACROSS (ElectroMagnetic - Accurately Controlled Routinely Operated Signal System). This method uses the same methodology as the seismic ACROSS, i.e. using accurately controlled periodic signals and precise synchronization of the whole observation system. In this paper we introduce a numerical code of electromagnetic waves in simplified layered resistive (semi-conductive) medium, required for the analysis of the Earth’s structure and the monitoring of its electrical state by the EM-ACROSS. Comparison with numerical calculations and the analytic solutions was satisfactory. Further comparison was made with the observed transfer functions in frequency domain (1-100 Hz & source-receiver distances are less than 3.5km) at Tono area. Agreement is noted particularly for magnetic field, despite of the significant heterogeneity of electric conductivity at the shallow part of this area when we assumed 100Ohm-m for the Toki Granititic formation. This code will be useful in designing the observation system and also the data analysis of the transfer functions acquired by ACROSS without any constraint of far field or near field.
