Tuvinian Institute for Exploration of Natural Resources SB RAS (Kyzyl) The working with terrain maps requires frequently the knowledge of height of a spot on the map. The approximate calculation of height of 982 spots of finding of the cultures of plague for 1965-2006 in the valley of the Kargy river in the Mongun-Taiga district of Tuva has been done by the authors. By means of two methods the values of spots height have been elaborated.

The first method is based on the use of current information about relief of the terrain by means of files of remote sensing data. These files are available, for example, on the address: http://netgis.geo.uw.edu.pl/srtm/Europe. Originally data of the map of spots of finding of the plague contained coordinates of spots on the terrain (XY-coordinates). The file of given XY coordinates has been imported through option of menu OPEN GENERIC ASCII TEXT FILE in the program GLOBAL MAPPER, where the substrate is a kit of files of heights, downloaded from Internet for the terrain under study. Then by means of export (point of menu Export raster and Elevation data) we had a textual file, containing, except XY coordinates spots, Z coordinates of spots of finding of plague.

For independent control of accuracy of approximation of coordinates (XYZ) a program, working immediately with files of heights (htg-files), has been created. It has permitted us to get sufficient accuracy in the course of Z-coordinates determination.

The second method of determination of spot height has been realized in the program ArcView3.2 with additional modulus 3D Analyst. The method is based on the construction of TIN-cover on the basis of the linear SHP-file of horizontals.

In ArcView3.2 menu with additional modulus 3D Analyst there is an option of creation of the contour of the same height, based on the spot you determine; this option gives information about height of the spot under determination in the created TIN-cover. The authors have altered script Spatial.Contour Tool, doing this operation in the way it automatically processed coordinates X, Y of spots, created contour lines in TIN-cover for each of spot of SHP-file and calculated heights of these contour lines for each of spot. And it wrote down calculated heights in resulting GEN-file, which contains identification number of the spot, values of X and Y coordinates - longitude and latitude in decimal degrees, and the obtained values of Z coordinates in meters above see level.

Results of calculations show that range of heights of spots of finding of plague culture extend from 1900 to 2500 meters. Besides, last years the width of range of heights has a tendency to reduction. Analysis of such behavior of graphic can answer many questions about settling of plague carriers, and detailed study of spatiotemporal displacement of coordinates of spots of finding of plague can give a key to dynamic model of the process.
