Evolution of Species and Ecosystems: Theoretical Analysis and Computer-Assisted Modeling
The report presents results of a theoretical analysis on biological effects caused by the Second Law of Thermodynamics. The natural selection has been shown to be a means counteracting the eroding influence of the Increasing Entropy Law and thus providing for the dynamic equilibrium between the population gene fund and the environment. It is concluded that elimination of elementary components of the biological system (i.e. cells in the organism or individuals in the population), being most rich in entropy, is a necessary condition for the population to be preserved from degradation and following extinction. So, on the philosophical view, the death is an inseparable property of the life as a phenomenon within the fundamental laws of the Universe.
Based on the population number equation that has been resulted from the model presented in the first part of this conference [1], two extreme outcomes of such a population dynamics - infinite growth and stop of reproduction - as effected by disturbances in the information channel between a cell and its environment about the abundance of cells in the organism are considered. These disturbances may be caused by some molecular damage of the mechanism "receptor - signal substance". On the author stand-point, such is a possible nature of the cancer and the organism ageing viewed on the level of the individual and the population as well.
