Moscow branch (Moscow)

By results of regional and stationary geocryological researches of the Earth cryosphere Institute the prognostic, geocryological and ecological maps are made. The drawing up of these maps requires multialternative generalization of an extensive information about natural and technogenic geosystems, about permafrost composition, structure, properties and temperature, about dynamics of exogenic processes, geocryological and hydrometeorological parameters.

Such opportunity is given by a GIS-technologies allowing operating some geocryological database joined with the fundamental cartographical information, and operatively make digital synthetic or one-item maps of any contents.

For quick operating the existing information and automated drawing up of maps the electronic geocryological databases and geographical information systems (GIS) of regional and local levels are used.

For all territory of Russian cryolitozone (regional level; scale 1:4 000 000) a map of natural geosystems; map of cryogenic geological processes; prognostic map of cryogenic geological processes under the A.V.Pavlov script; map of landscapes and distribution of permafrost are made. For all Russian Arctic (tundra zone; the same scale) are made lake-cover map (original one), soils, vegetation, vegetative subprovinces, surface and bedrock geologic maps (compilation maps with specifications). For Khanty-Mansi district the map of permafrost thickness and temperature distribution is made. The specific feature of relic permafrost layer position are displayed here by use of isolines (scale 1:1 000 000).

For objects of a local level (the areas Zapolyarnoe, Urengoy, Bovanenkovo and South-Shapkin oil-gas-condensate fields but also Norilsk region; scale 1:100 000–1:200 000) are made digital maps of natural cryogenic geosystems with indication of existing and projected technogenic situation.

Main and original in the carried out investigations is the installing of the geosystem approach to research of geocryological conditions and their dynamics both in natural, and in the disturbed situation. At drawing up of electronic digital maps – graphic information models of cryogenic geosystems – the GIS–technology is used. The graphic software is GEODRAW/GEOGRAPH and ARCINFO/ARCVIEW. The database software is PARADOX.
