Existing luminous microorganisms, their basic characteristics, luminescence expression, opportunities, results and prospects of use for the various purposes now are in detail described. The wide and versatile application reporter lux-genes puts a task of ordering of the information to such attribute, as features of structure of bioluminescent system in natural and transgenic microorganisms, and also under the characteristics directly connected to this attribute.

Collection culture IBSO (8 species of marine luminous bacteria and recombinant strains carrying lux-genes, vectors and cloned fragments) is base for designation of BIOLUMBASE. The database is designed in Customer/Server technology by CASE - Software PLATINUM Technology ERWin 3.5.2. In developed model BD natural (NÌ) and transgenic (ÒÌ) microorganisms with lux-genes, form independent sections. The uniform ways of classification of general lux-genes characteristics of bioluminescent systems, both native and cloned in unluminous microorganisms, are produced at creation of the logic circuit of BD structure of two sections. The general approaches to drawing up, set and input of the information, to unification of the experimental and literary data with reference to developed information system are also produced. In created BD the opportunity of a storage of the textual and formalized information about properties of luminescent bacteria and cloned elements, figures, circuits, microphotos, and also formalized information from the international databases is stipulated. Both sections of BIOLUMBASE will have outputs on electronic collections of microorganisms and database on protein structures, genetic maps, gene sequences and metabolic ways with the description expression regulation of bacterial operons, including cloned heterological lux-genes in different microorganisms, and also database on use reporter genes in fundamental and applied researches. The communication BIOLUMBASE with other databases can be carried out by user through stipulated in structure BD the references to addresses in a network Internet and literary data. Such BD of microorganisms with marker lux-genes, can become unique on the information importance. It is necessary to note, that while there are no databases reflecting bioluminescence features and opportunities of their use in basic researches and various technologies, as well as databases on recombinant plasmides with cloned luminescent genes and opportunities of their use in prognosic ecology and other fundamental and applied areas of a science.
