Human Genome Diversity

Ethnogenomics is a new direction of research originated from the human genome studies. The main problem is the investigation of genome diversity at different levels of population system organization. East European region is an area of great interest for human biology. The long-time contact between Caucasoid and Mongoloid anthropological types leaves traces on gene pool forming in this region. We have examined DNA diversity in more than 40 populations of the region. The main attention was focused on normal variability of mini- and microsatellite loci and insertiondeletion polymorphism. Diagnostic characteristics were analysed for each locus studied. Basic tendencies in variability were investigated both for single loci and for their groups, concerning specific types of DNA polymorphism. Taking as an example the East Slavonic populations we have analysed characteristics of SNP haplotype diversity. The studies let to evaluate the potentialities of different kind of DNA polymorphism as a tool for gene pool investigation.
