Database "Primulaceae of the North-Asian Flora"

Kovtonyuk N.K., Krasnikov P.A.

Central Siberian Botanical Garden SB RAS (Novosibirsk)

Database “Primulaceae of the North-Asian Flora is intended for distribution, storage and search of the information on Primulaceae taxonomy. It contains the results of biodiversity study of two lagest genera of this family – Androsace and Primula in North-Asian flora. This database is realized in Access-97. The database allows to have data on nomenclature, systematics, morphology, ecology, chromosome numbers and areas of Primula and Androsace of North-Asian flora. It is illustrated by color photos of plants in nature, photos of herbarium samples and black-and-white figures of species. There are published data (Kovtonyuk,1997, 1999, 2000; Kovtonyuk, Krasnikov, 2000) and original results of research on taxonomy of Primulaceae. Our database consists of several independent tables with general characteristics of species and detailed description of morphology of separate parts of a plant (flower, leaf, fruit, seed). So the general table ”Species” contains the following fields: subgenus, section, Latin names of species, Russian names of species, protolog, type, locus classicus, morphological description, chromosome number, ecology, area, closely-related connection, status of protection, list of the basic literature, photo or figures, synonyms. The table “Fruit and seed” represents the fields: form of a capsule, length of a capsule, color of seeds, length of seeds, form of seeds, seed surface structure (the date obtained with the help of a scanning electron microscope) and photos of seed surface. The database demonstration is carried out through some forms, which includes the most important fields. Database can be used for exchange of information between the specialists in BioNET.

The work has been carried out with the support of Integration Grant ¹ 66 of SB RAS, Grant of RFBR 99-07-90222 and Grant of SB RAS for Expeditionary Research 2000, 2001.
