Turbulence origination in near-wall flows (experiment)

Kozlov V.V.

Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (Novosibirsk)

The report is devoted to stability of laminar near wall flows and turbulence origination including the processes of excitation, linear and nonlinear disturbances development, generation of intermittence and turbulent spots in shear flows: boundary layer flow, flow in the channel, in area of a laminar separation flow etc. Large attention was spared to influence of the various factors such as a high free stream turbulence, cooling/heating of the surface, acoustic perturbations and suction on the stability and transition to turbulence in such flows. The various scenarios of transition are discussed.
