Comparison of numerical and analytical solutions of Navier-Stokes equations

Kamenshchikov L.P.

ICM SB RAS (Krasnoyarsk)

Under development and debugging of any numerical methods for the Navier-Stokes equations it is necessary to have the test problems (benchmarks) with the known solution for comparison its with the numerical solution. Among test solutions it is possible to indicate: 1) exact (analytical) solutions; 2) solutions obtained on high-resolution grids; 3) solutions reflecting reliable physical experiments. Obviously, a special value have analytical but not trivial solutions. In this work a comparison of numerical and analytical solutions for the different Navier-Stokes equations (2-D, 3-D, steady and unsteady) is considered.

Note. Abstracts are published in author's edition
