Abstracts

A dynamic data-processing Web-server for the Institute of Northern Development, Siberian Division Russian Academy of Sciences (http://www.ipdn.tmn.ru/), realizes a multipurpose practice of data processing for corporate multidimensional databases in Internet/Intranet. Underlying this practice is a common methodology on creating framework of databases and classifiers of information materials with different thematic orientation. In accordance with the suggested methodology, processing of information material (M) is defined through the function F(M) = (X)*(Y)*(Z)+(B) where (X) being a classifier that defines a notion of “object” (in this case, chapters of publication), (Y) – a classifier for object features (in this case, a publishing house), (Z) – a classifier that defines methods of data processing (“documents”/”tables”/”mathematical models”) (in this case, a document), whereas (B) – a classifier that defines references to information sources (bibliographies). Arrays of “classifiers” (indices) are published as three-level description lines (descriptors). Suggested for discussion, an approach towards realization of this methodology used under creating software of the Web-server for the Institute of Northern Development. The applied software is considered in terms of subsystems providing management of databases as well as their analytical processing. An important aspect in supporting serviceability of the Web-server remains development of administrating functions. Essential administrating functions are discussed within practices comprising software maintenance, searching, collecting and updating databases, consulting, managing Web-site (basing on the example of the section «Digital Library» presented by the Institute of Northern Development).
