Information System of the Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics RAS SB

The development of a communication infrastructure of the Siberian Branch of an Academy of sciences has created premises of heavily application in scientific researches of technologies oriented on network access to outcomes of observations. The possibility of access to Internet resources not only essentially expanded possibilities of information maintenance, but also has reduced in necessity of the coordination of internal resources with the common world standards.

The main purpose of creation of an Institutes Information System (IS) is the organization of free network access for collectives of scientific establishments of SB RAS and interested foreign organizations to archives of observations on solar activity, solar wind, magnetosphere and ionosphere of the Earth received with tools of a helio-geophysical complex of Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics SB RAS. Due to a broad spectrum of existing observant possibilities with the help of developed IS it becomes to a possible to solve of fundamental problems of diagnostics and prognosis of the geoeffective phenomena based of comparative and statistical analysis of an arriving information in cuasi-real time.

The developed Information System (IS) should ensure direct WWW access to outcomes of observations of 19-th of the largest helio-geophysical instruments of Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics SB RAS three from which are included in the official list of unique instruments of national significance. The system should have a high velocity of demand processing, intuitively clear interface, and should provide a possibilities of Web-administration. As the architectural component called to supply interoperable functions of developed IS, we planned to use version 2.0 of the CORBA (Common Object Request Broker) architecture.

The functional analogs of developed IS are SOHO Synoptic Database, The NASA Astrophysics Data System, TRACE Data Center and Spider. In difference from the indicated analogs, the developed system will be oriented on information service of joint scientific researches on observational data of a complex of helio-geophysical instruments of Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics SB RAS, that a possibility of its integration with similar systems like a Spider however does not exclude.
