It is known, that forest fires occur, when forest fuel layer is
burning, if their moisture content does not exceed some critical value.
In a report original setting up a problem of drying forest fuel layer is
given, in the frames of which this layer is modelled by three-phase
easily permeable medium, whose drying speed is determined by
Herts-Knudsen Law. As a rusult of mathematical modeling it is stated,
that during forest fuel drying solar radiation and wind, and a soil type
as well greatly influence the process.
It is shown, that forest fuel
moisture content increases from the top down, speed of drying an upper
layer of the forest fuel is maximum. Examples of daily and seasonal
changing forest fuel moisture content, which are in good agreement with observation data, are given.
