Dynamic characteristics of cylinder bodies oscillating in linearly stratified fluid

Ermanyuk E.V., Gavrilov N.V.

Lavrentyev Institute of Hydrodynamics SB RAS (Novosibirsk)

This report presents the results of experimental and theoretical study on the oscillations of a body of arbitrary geometry in a continuously stratified fluid. Relations and criterions of affine similitude are obtained for a uniformly stratified fluid with constant buoyancy frequency. Theoretical solutions for cylinders with elliptic, diamond and square cross-sections are supported by experimental data. The effects due to internal wave radiation and due to viscosity are analysed. The study has been supported by RFBR (grant No. 0001-00812) and SB RAS (grant No. 6 for young scientists and grant No. 1-2000 of Integration Project)
