Problem of viscosity consideration in methods of discrete vortices

Shmagunov O.A., Scobelev B.Yu.

Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (Novosibirsk)

One of the cardinal problems in the methods of discrete vortices is consideration of the viscosity influence. The authors propose a new approach to this problem. For the first time, the viscosity is taken into account by way of varying the invariants of ideal vortex elements system. Until now only the equations of vorticity viscous diffusion were used for this purpose. Another essential point is consideration of the vorticity diffused from the flow kernel to the infinity under the influence of viscosity. As the calculations have shown, this diffusion considerably effects the picture of the flow.

Numerical investigation of various characteristics of a plain jet have been carried out: the width, average velocity, intensity of the turbulent pulsations.
