Influence of thin structure of stratification on parameters of nonlinear internal waves

Makarenko N.I., Maltseva J.L.

The mathematical problem describing propagation of steady internal waves in the layer of a weakly stratified fluid is considered. Approximate solutions modeling propagation of the solitary waves and smooth bores of finite amplitude are constructed with the use of scaling procedure based on smallness of the Boussinesq parameter. It is shown that amplitude dependence on the wave speed can be discontinuous even in the case of the small perturbations of a density. Asymptotic behaviour of solitary waves degenerating to the bore is studied.
